Shrine of St. Joseph volunteers Doris Kannady and Anita Schene passed out St. Joseph bread to people attending the March 19 Mass for the feast of St. Joseph at the shrine in Downtown St Louis. Father Dale Wunderlich, temporary rector of the shrine, blessed the bread during Mass. The blessing of the bread, a traditional observance of St. Joseph Day that dates back to prayers to St. Joseph during times of famine, is observed at several local parishes each year.

Good Friday retreat

St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 4556 Telegraph Road in Oakville, will host a Good Friday retreat beginning at 10 a.m. April 2 that will include a DVD meditation on "The Cross of Christ," a video depiction of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and participation in the Stations of the Cross. The parish fish fry begins at 4 p.m. and the Good Friday prayer service will be at 7 p.m.
