Archdiocese efforts raise funds to assist Haiti

Youth from Christ Prince of Peace Parish in Manchester filled boxes Feb. 28 with hygiene items for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. They are, from left, Audrey Vogl, Joe Gorman, Kelsey Zurweller, Sarah Verhulst and Nicholaus Cummins, all 14. Parishioners coordinated a collection by the parish, the grade school, PSR and Boy Scout troop. Visitation Academy students and faculty also contributed more than 100 kits. Eighth-graders preparing for Confirmation packed and labeled the boxes.

More than $1.1 million was collected in a weekend collection at Masses to assist relief efforts in Haiti.

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson called for a second collection at Masses Jan. 16-17, with the money going directly to Catholic relief efforts to assist the residents of Haiti affected by a devastating earthquake Jan. 12. Archbishop Carlson noted at the time that many parishes already support mission work in Haiti.
