Super Bowl time

Peter & Paul Community Services will host its 20th annual Super Bowl Party on Sunday, Feb. 7, giving homeless people respite from life on the street and a chance to enjoy Super Bowl XLIV on a big-screen TV, along with food, companionship and fun. The event is at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Hall in Soulard. Volunteers from Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Peter & Paul Community Services and Congregation Kol Am, a Jewish synagogue, help staff the annual party. Tickets are free and distributed by agencies that work with the homeless. After the party, shuttles will drop off participants to their various agencies. Most people attending the party will return to a shelter or the streets after the event.

 

Start your engines

Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Men's Club is sponsoring an adult Pinewood Derby Saturday, Feb. 27, at the parish hall, 5020 Rhodes Ave. in South St. Louis. The doors open at 4:30 p.m., and racing starts at 6 p.m. A $10 per car entry fee will benefit Scouting activities. For details call Todd Bolhuis at (314) 351-1932.

 

Student ambassador

A mostaccioli and meatball dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Ambrose Parish in the school lunchroom, 5110 Wilson Ave. on the Hill, will help raise funds for Austin Danback to take part in the People to People Ambassador Program. A silent auction will include autographed sports items and hotel stays. Dinner tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children under age 12.

 

Faithful givers

St. Gerard Majella parishioners are steadfast givers to the St. Cronan Food Pantry in South St. Louis. The pantry is the recipient of the Kirkwood parish's Give a Meal a Month program. The parish, along with other parishes in the archdiocese, also takes part in the St. Patrick Center Casserole Program.

 

100 years

The St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding at a Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at the church, 3854 Flad Ave. in South St. Louis. Msgr. Vernon Gardin, vicar general of the archdiocese, will concelebrate the Mass, which will include the blessing and dedication of the newly renovated Vincentian Children's Chapel.

Scripture study

St. Catherine Laboure Parish, , 9740 Sappington Road in Sappington, will host at seven-session Little Rock Scripture Study on the Passion and Resurrection narratives beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24. The classes will be from 9 to about 10:30 a.m. in the parish office lower level. Cost is $20. Parish mission

"The Search for Happiness" is the theme of a parish mission to be presented by Vincentian Father Oscar Lukefahr from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, to Sunday, Feb. 14, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 1000 Rosati Court in Perryville. For information call (573) 547-4591.

 

Latin Mass

Beginning Feb. 21, the Tridentine Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Sundays at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, 1420 S. Sappington Road in Crestwood. The Mass is being moved from its current time and location, 3 p.m

 

St. Vincent de Paul Benefit

"Saints and Sinners" will be performed at Nerinx Hall High School's Heagney Theatre, 530 E. Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves, at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12. Proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mary Queen of Peace Parish. The play is by Vicki Quade, author of "Late Nite Catechism." General admission is $35, VIP tickets $50.
