HEC-TV is showing its original one-hour documentary on Catholic education in the St. Louis Archdiocese throughout February at 1 p.m. Sundays and 7 p.m. Mondays. "Mission To Educate -- A Faithful Past, A Faith-Filled Future" tells the story of almost 200 years of Catholic education. HEC-TV is Channel 26 for Chater Cable customers and Channel 99, with HEC-TV option, for AT & T U-Verse customers.
St. Joan of Arc
Girl Scout Troop 1092 of St. Joan of Arc School in South City has collected hundreds of cold weather apparel items for St. Patrick Center, an organization which aids the homeless in St. Louis. The troop helped gather 147 coats, 37 blankets and 75 hats and gloves for the center just before the region was hit with extreme cold.
Helping Haiti
The student council of Rosati-Kain High School in the Central West End raised $500 for Haiti relief efforts. Students collected $370 for Catholic Relief Services, with the remaining $130 coming from the student council treasury.
The students, faculty and staff of Duchesne High School recently raised $1,000 in relief funds to Haiti.
At Blessed Teresa of Calcutta School in Ferguson, sixth-graders are sponsoring a fundraiser with students in each class buying tape for $1 a foot, with proceeds destined for Haitian relief. The tape will be used to tie-up the principal Jennifer Stutsman in the cafeteria.
Presidential Scholars candidates
Eleven students at local Catholic high schools are among 3,000 candidates for the 2010 Presidential Scholars Program. They are: Matthew Cole, Bishop DuBourg High School; Douglas Hall and Matthew Menendez, St. Louis Priory School; Eva Byrne, Rosati-Kain High School; Benjamin Minden-Birkenai, Rob Golterman and Frank Schumacher, St. Louis University High School; Stephanie Klimczak, Villa Duchesne; Kelly Schuering and Margaret McGowan, Cor Jesu Academy; Elizabeth Kincaid, St. Francis Borgia Regional High School.
