Recent media attention given to Archbishop Robert J. Carlson's involvement in the defense of marriage in Maine illustrates the need for the Church's role in society and political debate. In the ongoing mission of the Church, Christ's saving action is carried out through proclamation of the Word, the celebration of the sacraments and the promotion of human dignity in society.
