For a woman who has suffered the loss of a child before birth, the effects can be devastating.

But thanks to the efforts of a local organization, comfort is out there for moms.

Launched in 2003, Heaven Born is a nonprofit project that provides small, handmade fleece pillows to mothers who have suffered an early pregnancy loss. Tucked inside a small pocket on the front of the pillow is a booklet with tips on how to cope with the emotions that follow a pregnancy loss. The idea is the brainchild of Maureen Day, who suffered a pregnancy loss several years ago.
