Theater buffs, listen up. The world premier of a new musical will be performed in Webster Groves next week, a new take on an old tale that aims not just to entertain but to inspire and to spread the word of God.

“Moses and the burning within” is “a spiritual musical experience,” according to Steve Deines, a member of Mary Queen of Peace Parish, who is overseeing the production at Mary Queen of Peace.

The two-act musical, adapted from the Book of Exodus, was co-written by David Kauffman, a former St. Louisan who is a composer, producer and recording artist, and founder and creative director of Good for the Soul Music in San Antonio.

“Moses” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in Mary Queen of Peace Church, 676 W. Lockwood Ave.
