Archbishop Robert J. Carlson blessed Nazareth Living Center Oct. 12 as it enters the Benedictine Health System’s new co-sponsorship of the facility.

On July 1, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet’s St. Louis Province and the Benedictine Health System of Duluth, Minn., entered into a co-sponsorship agreement of Nazareth Living Center, an 11-acre, 272-bed, long-term care campus offering skilled nursing, assisted living and skilled rehabilitation in South County.

The Sisters of St. Joseph are continuing their Catholic sponsorship of Nazareth Living Center. The chapel at the center currently is being renovated.

In 1869, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet purchased the land at the site of the present Nazareth Living Center to build a home for retired and infirmed sisters. In 1992, the Sisters of St. Joseph expanded the facility’s mission to serve laypeople.
