Festival showcases plays with pro-life themes

As Respect Life Month approaches in October, a St. Louis-based Catholic theater company is planning to offer a performance of short plays with life-affirming themes.

Theater of the Word’s “Pro-Life Play Fest 2009” will take place the weekend of Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 2-4, at the Cardinal Rigali Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in Shrewsbury.

Proceeds from the event will benefit several pro-life organizations, including the archdiocesan Respect Life Apostolate, Birthright and Vitae Caring Foundation, as well as Theater of the Word, which places a focus on productions from a Catholic perspective.

Kevin O’Brien, founder of Theater of the Word, said the play fest will feature a varied look at the different stages of life, from unborn to the elderly, and should prove to be “a moving experience for the entire audience.”
