Media seen as way to help spread message of Jesus
Media outlets offer opportunities to make the message of Jesus relevant to people today, according to a Sister of Mercy who teaches media courses at Webster University.
Sister Jan Hayes is an adjunct professor who teaches courses on ethics in the media, cultural diversity in the media and mass communications theory.
“We have to be aware of what adults and young people are listening to and viewing so we can take those opportunities ... where people are living today,” Sister Jan said.
A challenge for the Catholic Church is to promote media literacy in the seminary, in religious communities, in parishes, schools and elsewhere, she said. “We are up to our elbows in information and need to become more sophisticated,” she said.
