Financial aid helps thousands of Catholic school students
Several thousand students will attend local Catholic schools this year who otherwise might not, thanks to a variety of financial aid.
More than 2,050 students from 1,533 families were helped by the Catholic Family Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund, according to David Shelton, director of administrative services for the Catholic Education Office. Those students received approximately $500,000 in grants for their education. More than 2,100 families applied for the grants, he added.
The Catholic Family Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund was established as a result of the successful Returning God’s Gifts capital campaign several years ago. Earnings from this endowment fund provide monies for the grants.
Due to the economic situation, this endowment has not produced any earnings for the 2009-10 school year.
