Brown County is great place to visit

South central Indiana's hidden treasure

Featuring a large state park, a state forest and part of a national forest, Brown County offers outdoor attractions, historic sites, an art colony and a quaint small town with a vibrant downtown.

The area in south central Indiana is within an easy drive of St. Louis, yet it remains largely unknown to most people outside of that state.

“We’re going to Brown County,” or “We’re headed to Nashville,” we told people in advance of our four-day visit there.

Confused looks abounded.

Not Nashville, Tenn., we had to explain, adding details about the hiking trails, accommodations and more. Still, few could get why we’d want to go to Indiana.

We’d been on an enjoyable trip once before to southern Indiana, visiting Hoosier National Forest, Bluespring Caverns, Spring Mill State Park, the Ohio River valley and New Harmony, but hadn’t been able to squeeze in a stop in Brown County.
