Cardinal Ritter Senior Services explains that volunteers make a key contribution
When told that the Cardinal Ritter Adult Day Program in Shrewsbury is “a happy place,” Sharon Ryan was interested in volunteering there.
She had contacted Catholic Charities to inquire about possible places to volunteer. It was 14 years ago, and she’s still volunteering once a week at the program serving as a respite for families who need a place for their loved ones who are unable to stay home alone.
One look and she could see that “it is a very, very happy place to be,” said Ryan, 62, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Oakville.
She began volunteering when her children were in high school and college and she had left a part-time job. “I felt like there’s more to life than cleaning the house,” she said with a laugh.
