Timeline and biographies of previous bishops in St. Louis
Before the appointment of The Most Rev. Robert J. Carlson as Archbishop, St. Louis has had nine previous bishops, eight were archbishops. The diocese was established in 1826 and elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese oon July 20, 1847.
