The old saying is that it takes a village to raise a child.

For those who wish to become Catholic, the archdiocesan Office of Christian Initiation, which is a ministry component of the Office of Worship, provides support to parish Christian initiation teams.

The archdiocesan Christian Initiation Team provides formation opportunities to parish Christian initiation coordinators, catechists and sponsors. The team includes priests, religious and laity from across the archdiocese, all who have had experience in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

“We walk with the teams in each parish ... in helping them to understand the process” of Christian initiation for those who seek to become Catholic, said Barbara Foley, part-time field representative for the Office of Worship.

The group meets monthly for prayer, faith-sharing, network development and educational programs for parish Christian initiation teams.

Several times a year, the team will host “companion gatherings,” which are workshops on the Christian initiation process.
