St. Cecilia School to open academy

Plans are under way for St. Cecilia School in South St. Louis to open a school within a school — St. Cecilia Academy — next fall for its sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. The middle school will remain part of the kindergarten-through-eighth-grade parish school, drawing students from within the parish boundaries. But it will be a separate program, somewhat following the Nativity school model found nationwide, with expanded academic programs, longer school days, some weekend classes and a special summer program.
