Legislature passes payday loans bill

The Missouri General Assembly has passed legislation protecting payday loan borrowers from abusive lending practices. The bill now goes to Gov. Bob Holden for his consideration and approval. Legislation putting a limit on the amount payday lenders can charge for short-term loans was supported by the Missouri Catholic Conference, which joined a coalition of other church, labor, community and consumer groups.
